He is the first Indian to achieve this feat.
Chopra's winning throw was 87.58m.
He broke his own national record of 88.07m.
Chopra is the second Indian to win a medal at the World Athletics Championships after Anju Bobby George.
The event was held in Doha, Qatar.
Chopra's gold medal is India's second medal at the 2019 World Championships.
India's first medal at the event was won by Hima Das in the women's 4x400m relay.
Chopra is a Commonwealth Games gold medallist and Asian Games gold medallist.
He is considered one of India's brightest prospects for a medal at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics.
