QB Trey Lance dealt to 49ers for Cowboys' 4th-rounder
The San Francisco 49ers have traded up to the No. 3 overall pick in the NFL draft.
They selected North Dakota State quarterback Trey Lance.
The 49ers traded their No. 12 overall pick, a 2021 third-round pick, and first-round picks in 2022 and 2023 to the Miami Dolphins for the No. 3 pick.
Lance played only one full season at North Dakota State, throwing for 2,786 yards and 28 touchdowns with no interceptions.
He also rushed for 1,100 yards and 14 touchdowns in that season.
Lance is considered a raw prospect with a high ceiling.
He will likely sit behind Jimmy Garoppolo for at least one season.
The 49ers have been linked to several quarterbacks in the draft, including Mac Jones and Justin Fields.
Jones was selected by the New England Patriots at No. 15.
Fields was selected by the Chicago Bears at No. 11.
The 49ers also received a fifth-round pick from the Dolphins in the trade.
The Cowboys received a fourth-round pick in return for moving back in the draft.
