S-400 will be delivered on time: Russian Ambassador to India
The Russian Ambassador to India, Nikolay Kudashev, has said that the delivery of the S-400 air defence system to India will be on time despite the COVID-19 pandemic.
The S-400 air defence system is a long-range surface-to-air missile system that can detect, track and destroy a variety of targets including aircraft, drones and ballistic missiles.
India signed a deal with Russia in 2018 to purchase five S-400 systems for $5.43 billion.
The delivery of the first S-400 system was scheduled for 2021, but was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Indian Air Force has said that the S-400 system will be a game-changer for India's air defence capabilities.
The S-400 system has been in service with the Russian military since 2007.
The system has also been exported to China, Turkey and Belarus.
The US has threatened to impose sanctions on countries that purchase the S-400 system from Russia.
India has said that it will go ahead with the purchase despite the US sanctions threat.
The S-400 system is expected to significantly enhance India's air defence capabilities and provide a major boost to its military strength.
